  • Can I order a portrait of multiple people?
Unfortunately, I do not make portraits in which multiple people are depicted. I do offer the option to make several separate works that fit together. Similar to the principle of a triptych.
  • How long does a commissioned portrait last?
I always use materials of the highest possible quality and that are intended for a long lifespan. The board on which the portraits are made is acid-free, which prevents discoloration. Board is also thick and a lot sturdier than paper. All portraits are varnished with UV-resistant varnish, which protects the work against dirt and discoloration.
  • Op welke ondergrond wordt een portret gemaakt?
Portretten worden gemaakt op zuurvrije hoge kwaliteit Crescent board.
  • Which format is best to choose?
This depends on the room in which you want to hang the work and what degree of refinement you want in the portrait. Small portraits (30 x 40 cm, excluding frame ) fit into most small spaces. However, small portraits have slightly less refinement, due to the small scale. Medium-sized portraits (40 x 60 cm, excluding frame ) have a size that fits in most furnishings. The advantage is also that the highest degree of refinement can be achieved here. Large portraits (50 x 80 cm, excluding frame ) are suitable if you want to fill a spacious wall with a striking portrait. Naturally, a very high degree of detail and refinement can also be achieved here. Extra large portraits (70 x 100 cm, excluding frame ) are of an impressive size and have a lifelike presence. Here too, a high degree of detail and refinement can be achieved.
  • Which payment methods are accepted?
At the moment I only accept payment by bank transfer. I will always provide you with a quote and you will pay the costs through invoices that I will provide digitally.
  • When do I pay for a commission?
Payment is made in two installments. I ask you to pay half the total costs upfront and the other half when the commission is finished, including optional framing and shipping costs.
  • How do I order a portrait?
You can request a commissioned portrait through the request form. This request is completely free of obligations, but I do ask you to share your wishes in detail so that I can help you to the best of my abilities.
  • Can I order a portrait for someone else?
Yes, you can order a portrait of anyone you'd wish to have portrayed. Note: if the subject is not allowed to know about the commission (if it is a surprise gift, for example), or the subject is not available for a photoshoot, I will ask you to provide quality reference photos yourself. In this case the option is limited to small portraits only.
  • Can I order a portrait of multiple people?
I do not offer the option to have multiple people portrayed in one artwork. I can however offer to make several seperate works that match each other, in similar fashion to a triptych.
  • What is the difference between graphite and charcoal?
Graphite is characterized by a shiny and reflective surface, because it has a slightly grease consistency. These results in graphite not being able to reach very dark values, compared to charcoal. Graphite is however very forgiving to work with and allows for smooth transitions, bright highlights and an overall refined and detailed image. They are most impressive when viewed up close. Graphite therefore lends itself particularly well for small portraits, as it can overcome some of the problems such a small scale creates in terms of detailing. Charcoal has a much more matte surface, compared to graphite. This means it can achieve darker tones and creates an image with more contrast. Charcoal is less forgiving to work with, however. Therefore, charcoal portraits are slightly less refined and detailed when viewed up close. Charcoal works make more impact when viewed from some distance. Charcoal thus lends itself well for larger portraits, where the scale does not impair the amount of detail that can be achieved.
  • How long will a portrait last?
I always use the highest quality materials for creating portraits. Portraits are made on acid-free board, which prevents corrosion and discoloration. Board is also much sturdier than regular paper. Portraits are always finished with a UV protective varnish, protecting the artwork from dirt and most importantly, discoloration.
  • On what surface is a portrait made?
All portraits are made on high quality acid-free Crescent drawing board.
  • Which size should I choose?
This depends on the space in which you intend to display the portrait(s) and which level of detail and refinement you'd wish the portrait to have. Small portraits (30 x 40 cm, excl. frame) fit in most small spaces. Small portraits are however slightly less detailed and refined, due to the small scale. Medium portraits (40 x 60 cm, excl. frame) fit in most interiors, large and small. An advantage is that I am able to achieve the highest level of detail in these portraits thanks to its larger scale. Large Portraits (50 x 80 cm, excl. frame) are suitable for large walls and are a central piece in the interior. Of course, the highest level of detail can be achieved in these portraits as well. Extra large portraits (70 x 100 cm, excl. frame) are of an impressive scale and have a lifelike presence. No one will fail to notice these portraits thanks to its size and level of detail.
  • I would prefer my portrait to be a different size than the options on the website. Is that possible?
Certainly, we can discuss a custom commission as long as it fits within my capabilities. Please describe your wishes at the end of the request form in as much detail as possible.
